International Master of Public Administration (IMPA) Program at School of Government(2024 Entry)

Over the years, the School of Government has nurtured many high-level, inter-disciplinary public sector leaders in China and all over the world. This program is strategically positioned to develop outstanding leadership talent for the global public sector. It aims to nurture graduates who have international perspective, are familiar with China, and who possess foresight, introspection and innovation. In this program, students will master professional knowledge in the fields of public administration and public policy through advanced analytical methods and technology. They will be equipped with the ability to analyze and solve public sector problems in complex environments, and be well-positioned for high-level, inter-disciplinary leadership positions in the public sector.
The Peking University School of Government welcomes international students to study in the International Master of Public Administration (IMPA) program. The IMPA program seeks to enroll: university graduates interested in public sector management, government officials, staff of multinational corporations, staff of international organizations, staff of research institutions and international nonprofit organizations, as well as management staff of foreign government agencies, multinational enterprises, international organizations and nonprofit organizations based in China.
Program Mode and Registration Period

Application Requirements
1)Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport. Residents of the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macau or Taiwan who have emigrated to other countries and are applying to Peking University as international students must present valid passport or citizenship documents dating from before April 30, 2018, along with proof of cancellation of Chinese nationality.
Note: The exit and entry administration authority of the public security organ of China reserves the right to judge whether an applicant still has Chinese nationality. If during the application period or even after the admission or registration the applicant is judged to be still holding Chinese nationality, his/her application, admission, registration or even enrollment will be nullified.
2)Applicants should be healthy, both physically and psychologically, with no criminal record, friendly to China and must abide by the laws and decrees of China.
3) Applicants for IMPA program must have attained a bachelor's degree and students who graduated from non-Chinese universities must hold a bachelor's degree from a university accredited by the Ministry of Education of China (Grade skipping or joining in the middle of the course is not acceptable);IMPA Program requires the applicant to have more than 3 years of work experience after graduation from the university; or those who have more than 2 years of working experience after obtaining a Master's degree or a Doctor's degree.
4) Applicants must be proficient in English. Non-native English speakers or candidates whose undergraduate course was not conducted in English are required to submit a TOEFL, GRE or IELTS test score as proof of English proficiency.

Submitted Application Materials
Note: Applicants should scan the original or notarized application documents in color using a scanner. Images captured by mobile phone or camera are NOT acceptable. The later admitted applicants must submitted original version to the International Student Division.
Application Fee
There is a non-refundable application fee of 800 RMB.
Note: International applicants are required to use the online payment while applying through the PKU online application system.Any other currency or traveller's check will not be accepted. Applications with incomplete documents or without application fee payment will not be processed.
The application fee is NOT refundable.
Initial Round of Selection
The International Student Division will review the applicant's basic qualifications. After passing the review, the application materials will be forwarded to the admissions office ofSchool of Government.
The school's admissions team will organize professional expert panels for the admission. All the submitted application materials will be reviewed to assess the applicant's comprehensive capacity. A shortlist of applicants will be drawn up for the next step of examination.The school will select qualified applicants for an interview by the end of April, 2024.The specific date and time will be decided by school of government and posted on the school's website. Applicants should check regularly for relevant online information to be posted.
Interview
After an initial round of selection, an interview is required before students are admitted. The Admissions Committee will give a comprehensive test for applicants and submit the admission list to Office for External Affairs. The list must be reviewed by the School and then submitted to Graduate School.
Admission
After all examination processes and confirmation of the admission list by the Graduate School and International Student Division, the offer letter will be sent out in late June 2024 together with other necessary documents for visa processing.
Registration
Registration will take place in early September 2024. The exact date will be specified in the admission letter.
Tuition and Scholarship
1) The tuition of the IMPA program will be 80,000 RMB per year, and 160,000 RMB in total for two years.
2) International students can apply for the following scholarships:
(1) Chinese Government Scholarship (Type B): tuition waiver, for-free accommodation, monthly living expenses and medical insurance provided in accordance with the regulations.
(2) Beijing Government Scholarship for International Students: tuition subsidy.

Visa, medical insurance and accommodation
1)
Visa
Students admitted to PKU may apply for a visa at the Chinese Embassy/Consulate in your country with the letter of admission and the JW201/202 form. International students who will study in China for over 6 months are required to obtain an ‘X1’ visa, which will only be valid for 30 days upon arrival in China. You must come to the International Student Division and apply for a Residence Permit within 30 days in order to obtain a legal status in China.

Medical Insurance
The Ministry of Education of China stipulates that all international students must be medically insured throughout their entire planned period of study. Students are required to purchase the Comprehensive Insurance Plan of Foreign Students on the day of registration. Students who do not have valid medical insurance will not be allowed to register.

Accommodation
Accommodation will be provided to students with scholarships that cover accommodation. Self-funded students may find their own living accommodation on campus or off campus. Please note that students who live off campus must register with the local police station within 24 hours of arrival.
Degree
Students are required to complete the curriculum, fulfill the designated credits, complete the master's thesis and defend it in front of a panel of experts. Successful graduates will receive a graduation certificate along with the Master's degree, according to the regulation of the Degree Committee.
